Although I live in the area, I hadn’t heard of this restaurant until a recent date took me here. We had a shared starter and then a selection of different dishes (fish and chicken); the food was superb and the lady that served us was soo sweet and helpful. We were then joined by the owner, a glamourous and stunning woman, who got me a Baileys and we just enjoyed a brief chat before we left. The decor inside is neutral and modern, but the only thing that lets it down is that it’s on the basement level (no windows), so you don’t have any view of the outside, other than that, perfect location on High St Kensington. If you look at their website, you’ll find that Michael Winner (a hard critic to please, referring to his Dining Stars programme) wrote a review of the Papaya Tree in the Sunday Times: ‘It’s a simple place, but the taste of the food was excellent’ – which sums up the place very well, I think.
An outlier that's living, learning and being myself…
